JewelCAD is widely used in many countries for jewellery design and manufacturing. It is a proven 3d cad software to build jewellery master moulds, replacing the traditional labour-intensive and inaccurate hand modelling. JewelCAD is a jewellery based computer aided design/computer aided manufacture software, JewelCAD allows jewellers and designers to create a fully rendered deign without picking up a file or using any metal.

A piece of jewellery can be drawn up using lines and points and rendered to look like gold, diamonds etc. A database of designs can be created from these drawings, with alterations (eg.changing a collett) taking mere minutes. From these 3d drawings, an approximate metal weight can also be calculated in any metal. The JewelCAD program can be used as either a manufacturing tool, or as a selling tool in a retail shop. Using pieces you have pre-drawn, a salesperson can pick and place them together to show the customer what the design will look like, or they can draw a ring from scratch according to the customer's directions.

Once a design is drawn on JewelCAD, a picture can be printed to show the customer, and the ring can then be manufactured.

Instead of make the ring by hand, the JewelCAD drawing is sliced and downloaded to a wax printer for production of a wax model. The finished ring design will look exactly like what is manufactured, as the drawing is used directly to produce the ring.
